Last year, I had the amazing opportunity to do a 1:1 session with Laura Gordon. Gosh, has it been a year already? More than a year? Wow, I can’t really believe that. In the wedding world, there’s a lot of controversy about styled shoots, editorials, workshops. I’m not gonna lie, I love them. I love going to workshops, and meeting other people in the industry. I have made some really truly incredible friends in that process who since have helped me through some great times, and some really hard times. In my book, workshops and styled shoots are part of our education as photographers. Being a wedding photographer can be a really lonely job. I don’t mean lonely in a negative, sad way. But the day to day in wedding photography involves lots of time at the computer, editing, writing emails, organizing blog posts. Most of us don’t work from an office filled with other people (and a kitchen with holiday goodies a co worker brought in). Most of us work from a space at home, that probably doesn’t look like a beautiful instagram workspace. I know mine doesn’t! And so going to workshops is a way to meet other people, ask questions, share, talk about burning questions, and realize that other people are in the same boat!
And so, I did a 1:1 with Laura Gordon, who if you don’t know who she is, she’s an amazing photographer in Virgina, who travels all over the world shooting gorgeous weddings, and is basically an inspiration on a daily basis. We had a wonderful two days, going over business topics, and then ended with a lovely shoot at a inn down the road.
